Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, joined with family and friends, as well as neighbouring Bexhill and Battle MP, Huw Merriman, for one of thousands of Great Get Togethers that occurred up-and-down the country to celebrate the life of Jo Cox MP.
The special event, near Wadhurst, was a celebration of the fact that we have ‘more in common’ with one another than we think, and raised money for the life-changing work of the Jo Cox Foundation and Age UK.
Nus spent the day with her family and friends, reminiscing about her memories of Jo, and the all-too-short time that she spent with her in Parliament.
The event also discussed the importance of getting more young people, and people from diverse backgrounds, into public office, to support further cohesion in our communities.
The event, which saw people from all over the constituency, and country, come together, was hosted in glorious weather conditions overlooking Bewl Water by Dolly Theis, and her family.
The event has raised over £600 for both the Jo Cox Foundation and Age UK, and continues to do so at https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/theiscoutinhoggt .
Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, said: "Jo placed the upmost importance on different people coming together and rejecting divisive politics. This message, sadly, seems to have gotten only more relevant since her tragic death. I am delighted that these Great Get Togethers, a fantastic way to honour her memory, continue to go from strength-to-strength, both here in Wealden and nationwide. They are a vital way to remember Jo, and to continue to do fabulous work in her name, by supporting the Foundation that keeps her memory alive, and other wonderful charities”.
