Rotherfield St Martin

Ahead of Dementia Action Week, Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, has joined Rotherfield St Martin (RSM) charity’s Time to Talk group session, focused on supporting unpaid carers of those living with dementia.

Dementia Action Week 2024, which is the Alzheimer’s Society’s biggest and longest running awareness campaign, is taking place this week (13-19 May), and is helping to raise awareness about dementia and dementia diagnosis.

It is estimated that there are over 11,000 people currently living with dementia in East Sussex and Nusrat has been working in partnership with community-led charity Rotherfield St Martin to help make Wealden more dementia-friendly and to raise awareness about the support available in Rotherfield and surrounding areas.

Time To Talk is a monthly session that gives those caring for a loved one or friend as an unpaid carer the opportunity to meet others in a similar situation, make friends and support each other. If you would like to join or know a carer you think would benefit from the group, please call the office on 01892 853021.

Nusrat Ghani said: “Rotherfield St Martin are a fantastic local charity and key community source of vital support for the families and carers of Wealden residents living with dementia. I have been working closely with them on making our communities more dementia friendly and I was pleased to join the Time to Talk session recently, where members stressed the importance of early dementia diagnosis and highlighted the issues they face as unpaid carers. I am keen to continue working with our local authorities and NHS bodies to support the work of RSM and improve the lives of those living with dementia, and their carers.”
