Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, is encouraging Wealden residents to shop locally this weekend, in support and celebration of Small Business Saturday.
Small Business Saturday UK is a non-commercial campaign, which takes place every year on the first Saturday in December. It encourages consumers to shop local and support small businesses in their communities. This Saturday, 2nd December marks 11th year of the Small Business Saturday campaign, during which it has made a real difference to small businesses, with consumer spending with small businesses on the Saturday alone reaching £1 billion in recent years.
To support this year’s campaign and to encourage people to shop locally especially during the run up to Christmas, Nusrat visited several local shops including the newly opened Pomfret Butchers in Horam, Hidden Spring Vineyard, Three Acre Brewery near Uckfield, and shops on the Mayfield and Wadhurst high streets.
Nusrat Ghani said: “The festive season is just around the corner and with so many fantastic award-winning businesses on our doorstep, there is no better place to get your Christmas shopping than our local high streets. I am proud that Wealden is home to a huge variety of small businesses, which are the backbone of our economy. They provide valuable job opportunities, keep our high streets vibrant and bustling and the money we spend with them goes straight back into our communities. Our fantastic small businesses are owned by our neighbours, friends, and family, who work incredibly hard all year round, so I would like to encourage Wealden residents to join me and support them on Small Business Saturday and in the run up to Christmas.”
