Teachers' Institute

Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, has delivered a speech at this year’s Teachers' Institute programme, aimed at engaging schools in the work of UK Parliament.

Teachers’ Institute is a 3-day residential course for teachers from across the UK to support them through talks and Q&As from Members of both Houses, workshops and tours to gain a wider understanding about how UK Parliament works and how young people can get involved.

This year, the event hosted 40 teachers from across primary, secondary and post-16/Further Education teaching phases, some from constituencies with the most severe deprivation, and some representing schools for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities. Following the course, the participants will go on to share what they’ve learnt with their schools and wider communities, to help engage their pupils in the work of UK Parliament.

Nusrat Ghani said: “The Teachers’ Institute is a fantastic programme, making Parliament accessible to teachers and pupils from across the country, and I’m pleased to be part of it this year. Citizenship and democracy education plays a key role in getting our young residents interested and involved in shaping the world around them and make a difference. I’ve always pledged to open up Parliament to the next generation of leaders and I continue to regularly host Wealden schools in Westminster for Q&A sessions and first-hand experience of UK democracy.”

Many of us parliamentarians have long worried about allegations that TikTok shares data with the Chinese Communist Party. I was therefore dismayed to discover that a parliamentary account had been created.
