Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, has joined the Prime Minister and other parliamentary colleagues in paying tributes to His Royal Highness, Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh and celebrating his contribution to public service.
The Duke of Edinburgh had long links to Wealden. He was a Patron of London Youth and was instrumental in setting up our fantastic local outdoor centre Hindleap Warren, which supports young people in exploring new skills at the heart of the Ashdown Forest.
Nus also reflected on The Duke’s devotion to The Queen, the country and the Commonwealth, and his modern role as consort to his leading wife.
Nus Ghani said: “My thoughts and prayers are with Her Majesty The Queen and the Royal Family at this time of personal loss. In a letter sent by His Royal Highness from his honeymoon, he speaks of a new combined existence of himself and The Queen. The power of this combined existence has done a huge good over the last seven decades. The Duke will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by the people of Wealden as he had so many links to the area, especially his patronage of Hindleap and support for young people. On behalf of Wealden, I humbly send our heartfelt sympathies to Her Majesty.”
