I am looking to appoint a hard-working, enthusiastic and experienced Communications Officer/Caseworker to join my small, dedicated team, either in Westminster or Wealden.
Job title: Communications Officer/Caseworker
Location: London/Wealden, East Sussex
Salary: In line with IPSA guidelines and commensurate with skills and experience
Length of Contract: Permanent (following successful completion of probationary period)
Position: Full time, although 32 hours+ would be considered for an exceptional candidate.
Key responsibilities:
- Diary Management including liaising with Ministerial team in Department of Business and Trade and the Cabinet Office
- Maintain and update a social media and online presence of the MP, including responding to comments accordingly
- Monitor local, regional and national media coverage and report any relevant trends to the Communications Manager/Office Manager/MP
- Produce online graphics and video content, as well as publicising surgeries and news alerts etc.
- Progress casework as required, ensuring that each case is dealt with promptly, sensitively, confidentially and accurately in accordance with the MP
- Provide generalist administrative and team support
- Respond to routine correspondence and enquiries
The successful candidate will have:
- Previous professional experience in a communications/marketing or administrative role (essential)
- Experience creating content for newsletters, websites, online distributors, social media (including video and graphics), including managing stakeholders, dealing with media requests and creating press releases. (essential)
- Prior parliamentary experience is advantageous as is experience of casework, liaising with Government Departments & Councils, although experience dealing with large volumes of written correspondence professionally will also be considered.
- The ability to assertively manage a busy MP’s diary including liaising with the Ministerial Private office and balancing the needs of the constituency also.
- The ability to work well independently & as part of a small team; keeping track of and progressing tasks and managing own workload is crucial, as is communicating with the team.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills, including the ability to work well under time-pressure, prioritise and meet tight deadlines; attention to detail is vital.
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills, confident user of IT, with excellent grammar
- Knowledge of the Wealden constituency would be advantageous but is not required for the role, however an understanding of Westminster politics is crucial.
- Ideally spend at least 2 days a week in the Westminster office when parliament is sitting, although balancing time between Westminster/Wealden is an option for the right candidate
