Residents across Wealden, East Sussex and the UK are being urged to prepare for the threat of flooding as Storm Ciarán hits
Storm Ciarán is expected to bring heavy rain and high winds to East Sussex from 6pm today (Wednesday 1 November) until midnight tomorrow (Thursday 2 November).
Wind remains the biggest threat from the storm, but there are various areas at risk of flooding as a result of heavy rain causing surface water or river flooding. Currently, 24 flood warnings & 107 flood alerts are in place in England as of Wednesday 1 November. You can sign up for flood warnings on the Government website here.
Take care when travelling in heavy rain, wind and thunderstorms. If there is major flooding on the highway please call East Sussex County Council on 0345 60 80 193. Further information on travelling during a storm is available here.
The Environment Agency (EA) has issued the following flood warnings for Wealden and East Sussex:
- Hellingly and Horsebridge. Flooding is expected for: Cuckmere River and Bull River at Hellingly and Horsebridge including Mill Lane, Station Road and the A271 at Lower Horsebridge.
- River Uck and the Framfield, Ridgewood and Tickerage Streams.
- Freshfield Bridge to Sharpsbridge. Flooding is expected for: River Ouse from Freshfield Bridge to Sharpsbridge including Sheffield Park Station and Fletching Mill.
- Alfriston. Flooding is expected for: Cuckmere River at Alfriston from Shermans Bridge to Deans Place Hotel including Milton Lock and Long Bridge.
- River Rother and its tributaries from Turks Bridge to the Royal Military Canal, including Crowhurst Bridge, Etchingham, Robertsbridge, Salehurst and Bodiam.
- River Teise area from Lamberhurst to Goudhurst, including the River Bewl and tributaries of the River Teise.
