A group of ten Year 11 students from the Beacon Academy Senior Student Leadership Team visited the Houses of Parliament, hosted by Wealden MP Nus Ghani.
The group were able to watch the Speaker’s Procession, the procedure which signals the start of a Parliamentary day as well as go on a tour of the Palace of Westminster.
Afterwards they were joined by former Sports Minister and Kent MP Tracey Crouch for an engaging Questions and Answers session.
The visit was a part of Parliament Week, a week dedicated to opening Parliament up and getting more people involved and interested in politics.
Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, said: “It was great to see Beacon Academy visit Westminster and have a chance to tour round the spectacular Palace of Westminster.
“I’m lucky to work in one of the most impressive and recognisable buildings in the world, and sharing that with constituents visiting from Wealden is one of the most enjoyable parts of my job.
“Parliament Week is all about getting more people involved in politics, and it’s especially rewarding to see so much enthusiasm and engagement from the students.
“Thanks must go to the excellent leadership team at Beacon Academy who put together such an enjoyable trip for their students. Thanks also to Tracey for taking time out to share her perspective in an engaging Q&A session.
“I’d encourage any schools interested in learning more about how Parliament works, or who just fancy a look round, to get in touch – I’d be delighted to host you.”
