Dear Wealden resident,
I hope you had a lovely break over the Easter weekend and had an opportunity to take advantage of our beautiful countryside and enjoy some of the fun activities organised by communities across Wealden. 🐣🌷
Since my last update, we've had some fantastic news regarding securing more Government funding for Wealden. I’m absolutely thrilled that Beacon Academy in Crowborough and Uplands Academy in Wadhurst will both benefit from a share of the £450 million investment as part of the Government’s latest round of funding dedicated to improving the safety of our school buildings.
Having previously made representations to the Treasury, I'm also pleased that Hailsham Leisure Centre will receive an investment of over £70,000 from the Government’s Swimming Pool Support Fund, to help improve its energy efficiency. Moreover, it is great news that East Sussex County Council will receive over £6m to support pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and in alternative provision (AP). I know from my casework this much needed funding will be a real boost to ensure that Wealden is better equipped to ensure children are appropriately supported.

As well as representing you as Member of Parliament for Wealden, I'm pleased to share that I have joined the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office as Minister for Europe. I was previously responsible for all of UK's industry, advanced manufacturing, supply chains and Ukraine reconstruction at the Department for Business and Trade and the Cabinet Office, and I've been asked by the Prime Minister to continue the work I've been doing at the Foreign Office.
As Minister for Europe, my focus will remain on Ukraine and I will continue working with Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister on building the country back. As someone sanctioned by Russia and the Chinese Communist Party, I will continue exposing Putin for his war crimes and keeping a close eye on our overseas relationships as well as protecting our democracy and values.
