Celebrating Wealden Heroes

In July 2020, I launched the ‘Wealden Hero Award’ to extend my thanks and gratitude for the efforts of Wealden residents to overcome the many challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, and to celebrate the many acts of kindness and community spirit throughout the crisis. I know that there are many people in Wealden who have made personal sacrifices to help others. These individuals are our ‘invisible’ heroes and it is important they get the recognition they deserve.

Throughout the summer, Wealden constituents had the opportunity to nominate a fellow Wealden resident, who has helped them, their family or the community during the pandemic, whether by volunteering to help the vulnerable, setting up local volunteer networks, volunteering for the NHS, returning to work on the front line or in any other invaluable way, to be recognised for their extraordinary efforts.

The Wealden Hero Awards campaign was kindly supported by Uckfield FM, Kent and Sussex Courier, Sussex Express and Hailsham FM.

Nominations for the Wealden Hero Award are now closed. Please see the below stories of our Wealden Heroes and media coverage.
