Policing in Wealden during Covid-19

I am working with our Blue Light Services and liaising regularly with Wealden police.

Most importantly, Wealden PCSOs are still getting out across the constituency, along with dedicated Enforcement Teams. To de

al with the pandemic, Sussex Police have established a dedicated Command structure, led by an Assistant Chief Constable who reviews daily the necessary measures to be taken to respond to the pace and scope of Government guidance.

I am working with the police and our focus on dealing with COVID-19 falls on:

(1)    Directed patrol activity for reassurance, prevent crime and Community tension monitoring.

Daily visits to all super markets and smaller express stores, to vulnerable areas and commercial areas

(2)    Responding to Increased Level of Domestic Abuse.

(3)   Increased presence in remote rural locations to tackle crime with neighbourhood watch.

 (4)   Monitoring county lines activity.

 (5)   Upscaling work on scams and frauds – with an increase in social distancing and self-isolation for the older generation, there is every likelihood that fraudsters will target this group by phone, online and cold calling.

(6)  Targeted work with  vulnerable groups with  Social services and Adult social care and Children services continuing work of outreach to engage with harder to reach groups.

(7)  Supporting Sussex farming community who are experiencing anti-social behaviour and trespassing by members of public.

(8)   Managing external messaging and guidance to prevent any potential community tension regarding public driving to beauty spots for exercise and dog walking.
