A village shop has been named the south east regional winner in a national award scheme.

Rushlake Green Village Stores, which also has a branch in Heathfield, took home the Village Shop/Post Office award in the 2026 Countryside Alliance Awards.

The scheme, known as the Rural Oscars, celebrates British food, farming, heritage and community life.

Nusrat Ghani, MP for Sussex Weald, met members of the Rushlake Green team at the awards reception in Parliament.

Ms Ghani said: "We are incredibly lucky to have so many fantastic rural businesses in Sussex Weald.

"They are key assets to our local communities and are the cornerstones of our rural life. I am proud that Sussex Weald has a strong history of participating in the Rural Oscars awards, and I am absolutely delighted that following the success of South Brockwells Farm and Smiles Sensory and Family Farm, Rushlake Green Village Stores were crowned South East Regional winners in the Village Shop/Post Office category this year.

"Well done to the whole team on this fantastic achievement."

Regional winners were celebrated at the Champions’ Reception held at the House of Lords, where they also competed for the national title.

Ms Ghani congratulated Rushlake Green staff Tony Field and Sally Reed in person at the event.
