Wealden MP Nus Ghani joined small businesses in Mayfield to celebrate Small Business Saturday.
The 1st of December was Small Business Saturday 2018, which highlights small business success and encourages consumers to 'shop local' and support small businesses in their communities. Across the country, almost £1 billion was spent, with £812 million being spent in small businesses.
Nus visited shops on Mayfield High Street to show her support, including Gabriel Interiors, who produce stunning wedding dresses, Monty and Ward Lingerie, the Middle House Kitchen and Deli, and the Rose and Crown pub, the winning pub in Nus’ Parliamentary Pub of the Year competition.
Earlier in the day, Nus held her regular advice surgery for Wealden constituents in Mayfield, with support from the local councillor team.
Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, said: “Small businesses and local high streets are the backbone of our economy, so it was great to show my support on Small Business Saturday. I’d like to thank Roger Stone from the Mayfield Business Forum and Councillor Redman for hosting me.
“Wealden is home to so many fantastic small businesses which help provide such a rich community atmosphere on our high streets.
“Earlier this year, I was delighted to welcome the news that the Treasury has cut business rates for 90 per cent of all independent shops and pubs, which will go a long way to supporting our high streets.
“I would urge everyone to go offline and show your support for local small businesses by visiting high streets in Crowborough, Hailsham, Uckfield, Mayfield, Forest Row and others to get your Christmas presents.”
