Wealden MP Nus Ghani met with Jo Johnson MP, the Minister for Rail, to discuss the state of the Uckfield line.
The Uckfield line, which is run by Govia Thameslink, is one of the most important connections for Wealden residents, but continues to perform badly. The Gibb Report, released last year, recommended a series of measures to increase the reliability of the line, including electrification and a new depot.
Despite this, the Uckfield line has seen few improvements, and remains a significant cause of frustration for so many of Nus’ constituents. Nus pushed the need for major changes to the Uckfield line to Jo Johnson, passing on the frustration of her constituents who are unable to rely on the service.
Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, said: “Since I was elected, I have raised the concerns of Wealden residents about the poor performance in Parliament and with the Government many times.
“Regrettably, performance has failed to improve, and the poor performance continues to feature prominently in my mailbag. I am disappointed that none of the proposed reforms have yet been implemented.
“I have passed these concerns onto Jo Johnson and once again stressed the importance of the Gibb report – the suggested solutions would go a long way to providing my constituents with the reliable service they need.
“I will continue to make representations to the Government, making sure Wealden’s voice is heard at the very top, and I am hopeful for progress in the near future.”
