Uplands Community College

Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, was pleased to attend the Uplands Community College Open Morning and open the new ‘Jubilee Court’.

Uplands Community College is a secondary, co-education school for about 800 students aged 11-18, located in Wadhurst. It will be joining the MARK Education Trust in September and working in close partnership with Beacon Academy in Crowborough.

Following a fantastic investment of £12.5 million, the school has constructed a new building with brighter classrooms, new theatre and much improved IT and D&T facilities. The new building is called the Hanson Building, after the school’s business manager Sophie Hanson, who made the successful bid.

A new polymeric pitch called Jubilee Court was completed as part of the improvements, with a new cricket wicket, a long jump, and a throwing circle. Nusrat was delighted to attend the Open Day to cut the ribbon and officially open the Jubilee Court alongside the Vice Principal Mrs Richards and the Head of Sixth Form, Mr Cunningham.

Nusrat Ghani said: “I was delighted to open the fantastic new facilities at Uplands Community College and meet the students, staff and parents. The new building and sports pitch are a great improvement to the school and will enhance the learning experience of many generations of students. I am pleased that in addition to the already secured £1.3 million for improvements to Beacon Academy last year, Beacon Academy, Hailsham Community College and St Mary’s School will benefit from further funding from the Department for Education. I will continue to lobby the Government so that every child in Wealden gets the same education funding and opportunities as pupils across East Sussex and the rest of the country.”
