Nusrat Ghani, MP for Sussex Weald, has recently met with the Chief Executive Officer of the Sussex Integrated Care Board (NHS Sussex), Adam Doyle, to discuss healthcare provision in Sussex Weald, delivery of primary care and emergency services, dementia care, mental health support, and plans for further integration of local services.

Nusrat was pleased to learn that following intensive work focussed on the county’s coastal communities, NHS Sussex are now targeting rural communities and putting together a plan for rural health provision, looking at whether mobile healthcare services could be introduced and to which locations, offering walk-in appointments on a specific day of the week.

During the meeting, Nusrat also championed existing local services including GP practices and pharmacies delivering the winter vaccinations, and the Minor Injuries Unit and Birthing Centre in Crowborough (Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust) who continue relieving pressure on nearby hospitals and saving local residents travel to Eastbourne or Tunbridge Wells.

Nusrat Ghani said: “Easy access to the NHS is particularly important in rural communities such as ours in Sussex Weald and I have regular catch ups with the leaders of our local NHS Trusts to discuss the service provision locally. I was pleased to meet with the CEO of NHS Sussex for an update on ongoing and upcoming wok, especially as we’re heading into the winter and various vaccination campaigns will be underway. I’m pleased that options for the expansion of primary care services across Sussex Weald are actively being considered and I welcomed assurances that more focus is being directed at primary care provision in rural communities. With the winter months approaching, I would like to encourage all Sussex Weald residents that are eligible for their free vaccines to book an appointment as soon as possible to protect themselves and their loved ones this winter.”
