Nus Ghani, member of the A27 Reference Group, has welcomed Highways England’s announcement of its intention to carry out significant improvement works to the A27 east of Lewes. This work will be carried out with the £75mil previously secured by the A27 Reference Group.
Highways England consulted on plans to improve this stretch of the A27 in Wealden between the 27thof October and the 8th of December last year. Following consideration of the responses received in the consultation, the preferred route for the improvement scheme has been announced.
The improvements will comprise changes made to key junctions at Polegate and Wilmington, the widening of the Drusillas Roundabout and the installation of a new walking and cycling path.
The scheme will help to improve safety and reliability on the A27 as well as supporting walking and cycling.
Commenting on the improvement work, Ms Ghani said: “The improvements to the A27 that have been proposed by Highways England are much needed in order to make journey times more reliable and to make the A27 safer for all road users.
I am pleased that the £75mil worth of funding that was secured by myself and the other members of the A27 Reference Group will be used to improve the road for everyone. This will make a big difference to local road users in Wealden many of whom rely heavily on the A27.
In the longer term, I will continue to collaborate with other MPs and Councils in order to secure a dual carriageway from Lewes to Polegate, which I know many local people have called for.
I am proud to work together with other Conservative MPs in order to deliver for East Sussex.”
