Wealden MP Nus Ghani visited ports in Sussex to show support for the fantastic maritime traditions on the south coast.
Nus visited Newhaven Port with Lewes MP Maria Caulfield, where they met with Captain Dave Collins Williams, the port’s Harbour Master. The Harbour Master showed Nus around Newhaven Port, demonstrating the port’s excellent ferry services, its support for the local energy sector and the productive and in-demand freight trade the port contributes to.
Nus also enjoyed visiting Shoreham Harbour, with Shoreham MP Tim Loughton. Nus met with the British Ports Association (BPA) Chairman Rodney Lunn, BPA CEO Richard Ballantyne and BPA Vice Chairman Alec Don, for a discussion about the ports industry, including the bright future for Sussex ports going forward.
Commenting on the visits, Ms Ghani said: “Despite the storms and snow hitting the south coast, I enjoyed visiting Newhaven Port and Shoreham Harbour.
“Ports in Sussex contribute significantly not just to the local economy but also to the wider UK and European network, and we are lucky to have such a great facility so nearby.
“We are very much a maritime nation in the UK and local institutions like Newhaven Port and Shoreham Harbour are the real driving force behind our maritime prominence.”
