Nus Ghani, the MP for Wealden, will join a Great Get Together event in Wadhurst this weekend.
The Great Get Together builds on the success of last year when over 120,000 events, large and small, took place across the UK to mark the first anniversary of the murder of Jo Cox MP.
The popular mix of streets parties, BBQs and picnics will be supplemented with sporting events and occasions to bridge community divisions and make new connections. All of them are inspired by Jo’s first speech to parliament when she said “we are far more united and have far more in common than that which divides us”.
Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, said: “Jo Cox’s legacy is one of togetherness and unity, and I’m delighted to see another successful year of Great Get Together events across East Sussex and the entire UK.
“Jo Cox was a colleague and I have fond memories of her. I’m glad that we are remembering her in this way, spending time with our friends, families and our loved ones.
“I am looking forward to attending a Great Get Together event in Wealden this weekend, one of many events which will have taken place throughout our Wealden communities.
“The spirit of togetherness which Jo Cox inspired is very much alive and well in Wealden. Whether you are in the towns of Crowborough, Uckfield or Hailsham or any of the surrounding villages, each have their own unique sense of community spirit.”
