Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, has joined with constituents across Wealden to call on East Sussex County Council to retain the full East Sussex Music service.
East Sussex County Council has launched a public consultation into the proposed closure of the small group and individual instrumental teaching part of East Sussex Music.
East Sussex Music provides a valuable service to around 7000 children across Wealden and East Sussex, many of whom have contacted Nus to express their disappointment with the proposed closures.
The consultation, which is available on the East Sussex County Council website at https://consultation.eastsussex.gov.uk/childrens-services/eastsussexmusic/, runs until the 27th July, and Nus Ghani is calling on as many Wealden residents as possible to share their views.
Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, said: “East Sussex Music is an invaluable service to so many of my constituents. Making sure as many children as possible have access to music is absolutely vital, as music opens up a whole new world of experiences and opportunities.
“As I visit schools across Wealden, I have seen first-hand the positive confidence-building impact music has had on children from all backgrounds.
“I am disappointed by the proposed reduction in the levels of service provided by East Sussex Music. I will be writing to Cllr Bob Standley, Lead Member for Education at East Sussex County Council, to urge him to reconsider and find savings elsewhere.
“I would urge all of my constituents, from Hailsham to Forest Row and Crowborough to Uckfield to sign the petition and respond to the consultation and make sure their voices are heard.”
