Nus Ghani has today welcomed the news that more than £3,127,720 million of National Lottery money has been invested in Wealden’s heritage projects since 1994.
From exploring local archaeology and restoring local parks and buildings, to protecting wildlife and researching local history, the Heritage Lottery Fund has awarded more than 56 grants to heritage projects in Wealden.
Now, the Heritage Lottery Fund is encouraging people in Wealden to apply for grants between £3,000 and £10,000 to undertake projects exploring the impact and legacy of the First World War beyond 1918. Whether that’s looking at the role the war played in bringing about universal suffrage, or the mechanisation of agriculture, there is a wealth of local stories waiting to be explored about life following the war.
Commenting on the investment, Ms Ghani said: “Wealden has an incredibly rich history and I’m delighted that the National Lottery Fund has facilitated local people in exploring and enjoying their heritage.
Next year marks the centenary of the First World War. The Wealden we know today was shaped immensely by ‘war to end all wars’ and so I would strongly encourage local people to make use of the funding available from the Heritage Lottery Fund in order to explore its legacy further. There are many fascinating stories from 1914-18 and beyond that are yet to be uncovered.”
