Abbotts Wood

Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, has welcomed the news that a new care home in Hailsham is ready to open its doors after receiving Care Quality Commission (CQC) Registration.

Abbots Wood Manor care home is part of Hamberley Care Homes which is an award-winning elderly care provider. The company has spent the last two years building this multi-million-pound Covid-secure home in Hailsham’s London Road and more than 100 local people have been hired to run the care home.

Abbots Wood Manor Care Home is due to welcome its first residents in February.

Nus has long been advocating for data and resources to be made available to Wealden services this winter and spring. She had previously raised issues with available testing, care staff shortages due to self-isolations, and delayed test results with the Health Secretary, who committed to addressing the matter immediately.

Nus Ghani said: “I am delighted that Abbots Wood Manor will be opening its doors to residents next month. I know that they will provide a personalised, safe and excellent care service and help alleviate some of the pressures that the local health infrastructure currently faces. I look forward to visiting the care home once the circumstances allow. It is my priority to ensure that care homes across Wealden have access to Covid-19 testing and vaccines. I am pleased that the majority of care settings in Sussex have now received the vaccination and more will be vaccinated this week. NHS East Sussex expects to have vaccinated all care homes in Sussex by mid-February 2021 and I will continue working Wealden care homes and our local health authorities to ensure that they have all the necessary resources and access to vaccines.”
