HOUSE OF COMMONS REQUESTS CROWBOROUGH ARMY CAMP ANSWERS

Crowborough News

A House of Commons committee is to investigate how Crowborough Army Training camp came to be used to house asylum seekers.

Sussex Weald MP, Nusrat Ghani, requested the inquiry, concerned about the lack of transparency, information and accountability on the issue. The powerful Home Affairs Select Committee has now agreed to intervene.

Ms Ghani said local residents, public service providers and her own request for consultation, public information sharing meetings and sights of legal decisions, had been ignored.

She said: “More frustrating is the lack of assessment on the impact on Crowborough and the length of time the camp will be in use. We just want accurate and consistent answers to what has happened in Crowborough, how long we can expect the Home Office to use the site, and what resources we can secure to help Crowborough and surrounding areas.

“It is a great positive result to have the heavyweight Home Affairs Select Committee engaged in what has transpired in Crowborough. This level of scrutiny is appropriate especially as the Home Office are yet to share how the site is safe, legal and compliant or long term plans to support the Cadets and other blue light services who have been ejected from the site.”
