Hospital Funding

Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, has welcomed the Government’s announcement of a new hospital for Eastbourne, in addition to new medical wards and major refurbishment at the Conquest at Hastings and a new clinical building at Bexhill.

The East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust will be part of the second phase of the Government’s £3.7 billion funding, which could see over £600 million invested in the Trust. This funding will provide a new hospital in Eastbourne, new medical wards and refurbishment at Conquest Hospital in Hastings, and a new clinical building at Bexhill Hospital.

This investment will be on top of the extra £33.9 billion a year by 2023-2024 that the Government is providing to the NHS; on top of the £450 million for 142 A&E upgrades announced this summer to improve infection control and increase capacity ahead of winter; and in addition to the 20 hospital upgrades the Prime Minister announced last year.

Alongside creating additional inpatient wards and improved parking facilities, East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust also plans include expanding its emergency departments at Eastbourne and Hastings, improving access to cardiology and ophthalmology services, and redeveloping outpatient, theatres, endoscopy and diagnostic services.

Nus Ghani said: “I continue to press the Health Secretary to ensure that both data and resources are made available to healthcare facilities in East Sussex. I am delighted that East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust has been selected for the Government’s Health Infrastructure Plan. This investment will transform Wealden’s neighbouring hospitals at Eastbourne, Hastings and Bexhill and help local people in East Sussex and in Wealden access the highest quality of medical care.”

The Trust has launched the first details of its redevelopment plans for Conquest Hospital, Hastings; Eastbourne DGH and Bexhill and is asking local people to have their say about what they want from the redevelopment of its hospitals.
