Wealden MP Nus Ghani has welcomed news that employment is at a record high and that wages are rising at their fastest pace for ten years.
A record high of 32.53 million people are now in employment, up 328,000 in the last year and 3.49 million since 2010, while the unemployment rate is a record low of 4 per cent, halved since 2010. Youth unemployment also continues to fall, with 428,000 16-24 year olds, almost half the number since 2010. 80 per cent of the jobs created since 2010 have been full time work.
Average weekly earnings increased by 3.4 per cent over the last year, outstripping inflation of 2.3 per cent.
Wealden continues to outperform the national average with an unemployment rate of just 1.2 per cent.
Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, said: “This is great news that means more people than ever before have the security of a regular pay packet as the Government helps people into work, backing businesses across the country.
“I work closely with our wonderful Chambers of Commerce as well as encouraging our farming, tourism and pub industries which employ so many people across Wealden.
“It’s fantastic to see local businesses in Hailsham, Crowborough and Uckfield and the surrounding areas continuing to create jobs and support local people.”
