Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, spoke to Channel 5’s Colin Murray about the practical details of the Conservative Party leadership contest.
Recently re-elected as Vice-Chair of the 1922 Committee, she described the atmosphere during the voting, the counting and the declaration of results for the first round.
She said it was difficult to know where votes from eliminated candidates would go because of the many policy issues that people are trying to get candidates to cover.
The second round is Thursday 14th July and the third on Monday 18th July. The Committee’s intention is that the new Leader will be in place by 5th September, when Members of Parliament return from the summer recess.
